T-3 Ministry
"Be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men." Titus 3:1-2
Join us and be a part of T-3 Ministry. We make sandwiches and put together sack lunches to distribute to the homeless and less fortunate in downtown Houston. There is not a requirement to commit every month. Just show up to help experience the blessings received from this ministry.
Let God show you how volunteering your time can make a difference in someone's life. Our Sunday school classes and other groups help by volunteering, usually on the third Sunday of each month, for the preparation and distribution of the lunches. We can always use help with distributing food.
Every month we accept donations of toiletry items, men’s shoes and men’s clothing which are greatly needed by the homeless population. Also needed are blankets which are used during the winter months for warmth and during the other months as beds so the homeless don’t have to sleep on the concrete or grass.
T-3 Homeless Ministry meets in room 704 at 10:10 a.m., the third Sunday of each month to make sack lunches. We then gather at 11:10 a.m. at the Great Hall to depart for downtown Houston to distribute the sack lunches and other donated items. All are welcome and encouraged to take part in this life changing experience.
T-3 December Update
Our monthly T-3 Homeless Ministry Outreach which feeds and clothes the homeless on the streets of downtown Houston departed on December 19th with over 300 sack lunches prepared by Sugar Land Girl Scout Troop # 775.
The girl scouts, their team leaders, their parents and members of our church congregation loaded eight vehicles and made the journey to downtown Houston to distribute the food, water, clothing and toiletry items that have been donated.
Over 150 blankets, 25 men’s jackets, 150 pastry items and 200 sodas were donated to help the homeless and less fortunate. Upper Room devotional books were also handed out to help feed the souls of the many grateful people. God’s presence was truly felt that day….by the volunteers as well as the recipients.
The History of T-3; a Charge to Love the Homeless
Several years ago God placed on Sylvia Lindley’s heart the same request that He made of Peter at the Sea of Galilee over 2000 years ago (see John 21). This simple request was for Sylvia to show her love for Him by feeding His sheep, the homeless of our society.
At first, Sylvia struggled to understand what God wanted her to do and whether she could really make a difference until God dramatically got her attention. As she was driving one day, she was almost run off the road by a pick-up truck and as she was about to get angry at the driver, she noticed the bumper sticker that read “Can One Person Really Make a Difference? Jesus did!”
From that day forward Sylvia and her friend Carol Whitcher, have faithfully tried to follow this calling to feed and love God’s sheep. Their faithfulness and the love they have shown in God’s service has touched the lives of many homeless people and has encouraged many members of our congregation to become more actively engaged in this powerful mission. As Jesus said in Luke 10, “The harvest is truly great, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the Harvest, that He would send forth laborers into His harvest.”
