Manna Bags, Food for the Body and Soul
While the Israelites were wandering in the desert looking for the Promised Land, God made sure they never went hungry by providing "manna" from heaven. They were given enough to sustain them for one day, nothing more, nothing less.
The Manna Bag Ministry does the same thing for the lost or hungry we see daily on the streets of Houston. Manna bags contain food for a day, toiletries, a Bible and phone numbers to organizations in the area where they can go for help. Manna bags are given to the homeless you see on the streets, the person on the street corner asking for help, or a person that God has placed in your path needing your help. A Manna Bag gives them food for the day to satisfy their hunger, a Bible to feed their soul and phone numbers to agencies that they can turn to for help. All of this is placed in a 3-gallon bag to make it easy to hand out.
Manna Bags are available the first Sunday of each month in The Commons between 8:50 a.m. and 12:20 p.m., as well as in 1st Place Bookstore. Each bag is $5.00. This is another way God gives us to share with those less fortunate.
In 2006 over 300 Manna Bags were purchased and distributed to the homeless and hungry in our community.
