Letter from 2010 Lay Leader Brent Harraman

Dear Church Family,

In the week leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, he was at a dinner surrounded by his disciples, friends, and others just wanting to honor Him. It was during this dinner that Mary of Bethany entered the room, broke open a very expensive jar of perfume, and washed Jesus’ feet with it, drying His feet with her hair. Mary’s act of humility and generosity caused quite the stir with the dinner guests, including the disciples.

But Mary didn’t wash Jesus’ feet as a “show” for the others, nor was this out of guilt or obligation or even because she was asked or commanded. No, she acted purely from a heart of worship—that she placed Jesus above everything else in her life. However, this act of worship created an unmistakable witness to everyone in the household. Even those not in the room (and even everyone else who was in contact with Jesus that week) would have smelled the perfume and would have wanted to know what had happened.

FaithWalk 2010 is an opportunity for each of us to lift Jesus up and glorify Him as our Lord and master. Your tithe is an act of worship, an active demonstration of obedience, and the cornerstone to living a generous life. Please use this package of information to prayerfully consider your pledge to the ministries of our church.

Loyalty Sunday is January 24! Bring your Estimate of Giving card to worship as we dedicate our tithes to God. Together, our act of worship can be an unmistakable witness to our community and to the world.

Yours in Christ,

Brent Harraman
2010 Lay Leader
