About Serving in The Journey

The Journey serves our 2nd and 3rd Graders. This is a rotation model Sunday school class where the children rotate each week to a new classroom for instruction on one topic. We adhere to a Safe Sanctuary Policy with guidelines for teachers and shepherds in the classroom. All volunteers working with children are required to undergo a background check before being assigned a classroom.

There are 6 classrooms with one or two teachers administering the curriculum in each class.  Rotation topics last for several weeks, so a teacher teaches the same lesson. This is a multi-intelligence approach but creativity from the teacher is welcome to enhance the lessons. Each room is designed to teach the lesson in fun and interesting way but differently from the other rooms.

  • Joseph and Son’s Workshop: This is our craft shop where kids learn the lesson by doing projects with their hands.
  • The Cave Connection: Our computer room houses computers, which teaches the lesson through games.
  • Mt. Tabor Tales: Children will learn the lesson from a biblical character or old-fashioned story telling.
  • Lamplight Theatre: Children dress up and act out Bible stories or make their own relevant interpretations of the lesson. It’s a good place to catch a movie too!
  • King Solomon’s Temple: This room may be set up for a giant game or anything where kids can move! Kid’s learn through music here too.
  • Mary and Martha’s Bed and Breakfast: Geography, history, science and perhaps food bring the lesson into focus here.

Children are placed in groups by color at the beginning of the year.  Every week at least 2 Shepherds travel with them from week to week and room to room.
