About Faith and Family
Faith and Family is a mixture – a mixture of ages, status, and backgrounds. We are also a mixture of study, sharing, and laughter. The Bible forms the foundation of our study and because we all have our own unique faith walk, we grow from sharing our experiences with one another. Above all, we keep a journal of our prayer requests and trust God’s answer for each one. We always have room for one more.

What We are Studying
Faith and Family is studying the book of James. James, the Bishop of the Christian church in Jerusalem, gives us practical principles for living out our faith. James is direct and “to the point” on his teachings. He proclaims that freedom is found in the truth of the Word of God. We are learning to allow God to plant His Word in our lives so that we may be living witnesses of Jesus Christ.
Following James, Faith and Family will enjoy the study of one of our favorite authors, J. Ellsworth Kalas. We will study his book, Grace in a Tree Stump. This book includes 18 stories of grace found in the Old Testament. Grace is not just a New Testament teaching, but has always been part of the character of God and the Old Testament demonstrates that fact in a variety of ways.
Missions that Faith and Family Supports
Faith and Family supports all SLFUMC missions, including Townewest Elementary, T3, Giving Tree, Faith in Practice, the Ukraine Methodist Student Center, and Seaman’s Center. We help our church ministry areas with their fund raising efforts.
Social Activities
Our class has family cookouts, Friday night meals at various restaurants, and an adult Christmas party.
Grounded in scripture
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds not forsaking our own assembling together ... but encouraging one another ...” Hebrews 10:23-25
